Apartamento Colonial

Spanish version

The Costa Brava (the rugged coast) stretches 200 km along Catalonia's Mediterranean coast, enveloping long sweeping beaches like Playa d'Aro, Palamós, Roses and Platja de Pals, and delightful smaller beaches tucked into spectacular rocky coves like Aiguablava, Sa Tuna, Sa Riera, Tamariu and Platja Fonda, in Begur.

The area was a Greek colony before it was won and treasured by the Romans, and successive migrations since have confirmed what the local people have always known -this is the area that have it all!

The climate, the spectacular coast scenery lit by the glorious clear light, the pollution free sea sparkling in every shade from jade to indigo blue make this an ideal place for summer beach fun. The majestic Pyrenees mountains are only two hours drive away from the coast and offer wonderful ski facilities, as well as providing a spectacular backdrop to the beautiful vistas.

Between the sea and mountains are charming villages still living within their medieval walls, such Pals, Peratallada and Palau Sator. The undulating inland fields are furnished with rice-paddies, lavender yields and sunflower plantations with every road-verge spilling over with poppies and margaritas. You have the sensation of stepping into a Van Gogh masterpiece. The Greek archaeological sites at Empúries, the citadels at Begur and Torroella de Montgrí keeping watch against seaborne pirates, the numerous ancient masias fortified with towers against hostile armies, all remind you of time in history.

And that’s just the scenery. The local produce, cuisine and wines are world famous. The local people, industrious and energetic as they are, still know how to enjoy life and family -a good fiesta will bring out the whole village. The local folk dance, the sardana, might not look a tourist event but it is celebrated several times a month by the whole community just for the simple fun of it. The ancient churches tolling out the hours, the museums, the summer music festivals (classical, jazz and rock) and the giant outdoor discos surrounded by woodlands provide for every cultural taste.

This region is also a sportsman’s paradise with well-appointed golf courses, and tennis courts, scuba-and skin-diving, yachting, boating, wind-surfing, indoor swimming complexes, gymnasium, hiking, hang-gliding, light aircraft, air-trips, etc.

Surrounded by all this, the absolute golden triangle of the region is the area bounded by Calella de Palafrugell and Platja de Pals. That is, the municipality of Begur which is today’s version of Cap d’Antibes to the Costa Brava’s Riviera, except that this region lacks the over-development and shabbiness of the old French Riviera.

Property prices have been strong in this region for the past 10 years but recent years have seen even a more remarkable growth. A property investment here is not just fun, it is an excellent business opportunity.
